X Screenshot Darkener is a Chrome extension that makes bright, screenshot-like images on X easier to view by displaying a darkened version. This policy describes the extension's data handling.

Website content processed on your device

The extension examines image elements on X and supported Twitter pages, including their image URLs and dimensions. It downloads eligible images from X's image hosting services, analyses their brightness and colours, and creates darkened copies locally in your browser. It adds an Original/Darken control above eligible images.

Images can contain text, names or other personal information. The extension treats them as image pixels; it does not perform optical character recognition, identify people, or build profiles. The developer does not receive these images, their URLs or the converted copies.

Preferences and Chrome Sync

The extension stores its enabled state and image-processing preferences using Chrome's storage API. The current version uses chrome.storage.sync. If Chrome Sync is enabled, Chrome may synchronise those preferences through Google's services to your other browsers. Images and image URLs are not placed in this synchronised storage.

Network requests and other services

To process an image, the extension may request it from X's servers over HTTPS. The image host receives the requested image URL and ordinary connection information, such as your IP address. The extension's image requests omit credentials and do not send a referrer. X's own website and services operate under their own privacy practices.

The extension does not upload images or browsing information to the developer or to an analytics, advertising or AI service. It contains no analytics or tracking SDK. Google may handle synchronised preferences as described above.

Information the extension does not gather

The extension does not request your name, email address, payment details, health information, passwords, authentication cookies or location. It does not maintain a list of pages you visit, read your browser history, record keystrokes, or log clicks and scrolling. It does not extract private communications. Personal information incidentally visible inside an image is processed only as part of the local image transformation described above.

Storage, retention and your controls

Image analysis results and converted copies are held in bounded memory caches while the extension runs. They are discarded as cache entries are replaced or the extension's background worker stops. Chrome may also keep downloaded images in its ordinary browser cache. A page may retain a converted image until the page is refreshed or closed.

Preferences persist in Chrome storage. You can disable or remove the extension through Chrome's extensions page, manage synchronisation in Chrome settings, and clear cached images through Chrome's browsing-data controls. Removing the extension removes its local extension storage; any account-level synchronisation is managed by Chrome. The developer holds no user database to delete.

Permissions and code

Access to X/Twitter pages is used to find eligible images and display their converted versions and controls. Access to X's image hosts is used to retrieve image pixels for local processing. The storage permission is used to remember extension preferences.

All executable extension code is included in the installed package. Downloaded images are data, not remotely executed code.

Limited use and sharing

Data is handled only to provide the extension's image-darkening function and remember its preferences. The developer does not sell user data or transfer it for advertising or other unrelated purposes. Data is not used or transferred to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.

The supplied policy page contains no analytics scripts, forms or third-party embeds. Visiting this page is separate from using the extension; the website's hosting provider may process ordinary web-request information to serve it.
